La Quinta Polo Tournament 2019 in Sotogrande
With more than 12 teams of low and medium handicap, VIII La Quinta Polo Tournament in Sotogrande is one of the most entertaining and pleasurable tournaments of the year.
We have sponsored this event for five years now, to support Sotogrande’s cuisine. It is a way to promote local gastronomy, as the teams are formed by the restaurants of Sotogrande. For three days, everyone enjoys pure polo and sun in the privileged climate of Andalusia, with very pleasant spring temperatures.
The purple shirts belong to our team. Noll & Partners, sponsors Don Diego Restaurant. A Japanese-Peruvian Fusion space located in La Marina. Don Diego is owned by Juan Moncayo, an emblematic gastronomist in the area.
The Tournament.
The Tournament begins on Thursday at Parrilla La Quinta Restaurant with the presentation of Polo-shirts. On this evening, participants and guests are delighted by glass of Argentinian wine and delicacies.
On Friday afternoon, at Santa María Polo Club, the first matches are played! And on Saturday, the games take place in the afternoon, where the finalists of the tournament qualify.
Sunday is a spectacle for the whole family.
Children can enjoy a dedicated space with inflatable castles. Pets have free pass throughout the club. Here, everyone is welcome!
The games are becoming increasingly exciting. As expected at a restaurant tournament, food and spirits play an important role alongside the exciting final polo games.
On the polo field players now are fighting for the 4th and 3rd place. In the meantime, La Quinta Restaurant organizes an Argentine barbecue for more than 1500 participants. Together with an Andalusian paella impossible to refuse! These exquisite plates are paired with the exclusive Argentine red wine. Obviously, from the sponsor of the Bodega Los Helechos! Meanwhile, the polo tournament has become a great party!
After the final games, the champion team of the tournament has been defined at the award ceremony. The ambience is animated with international live music. The mood is now at its peak! And the Gin Tonics are flowing while the live rock funk music from the 70’s and 80’s unites guests and polo players to dance and party together.
A tournament with international reach.
More than 2,500 people attend this tournament, which takes place every year in late May. From Alcaidesa, Gibraltar, Marbella, Jerez de la Frontera, Estepona, Jimena. Surprisingly, the tournament also welcomes international audiences from England, Belgium, France, Germany and Portugal.
Sotogrande welcomes its visitors with its luxurious hotels, such as the Sponsors Hotel Club Marítimo de Sotogrande in the port. In the evening, the participating restaurants of the tournament come together for an after-polo dinner. Like Ke Sotogrande, Restaurante Midas, Casa Moncayo and Don Diego.
This year, the ISOLAS 1892 – MONCAYO team won the 8th. La Quinta Tournament. They defeated CAZENOVE – LA QUINTA in a controversial final with 10:9. Congratulations to the team and Lawrence Isola, who was awarded the title of “Best Player” of the tournament.
As everyone knows, the last weekend in May is a party. Polo, music and the best of gastronomy merge to the most anticipated weekend for the exclusive crowd of Sotogrande and the Costa del Sol. Undoubtedly, the La Quinta tournament is the opening tournament of the Polo season in Sotogrande. ■
