Sotogrande is a private residential resort, not a town. It’s relatively compact and low-density by design, the whole point is space, privacy and greenery. It functions more like an exclusive gated community on a large scale, with around 4,500 permanent residents, rising to over 30,000 in summer. Sotogrande is tranquil, spread out and deliberately unhurried, the opposite of a city.

There are six golf courses, eleven polo fields, three tennis and padel clubs, two main beach clubs and several chiringuitos. The resort has one five-star hotel and two four-star hotels. For shopping, there are six commercial centres including SuperCor and Mercadona. 

The are two international schools in Sotogrande: The Sotogrande International School has 1,300 pupils from 40 nationalities. The International Montessori School (IMS) has been operating in Sotogrande since 2020.
