Is Sotogrande a holiday destination for visitors or more for permanent residents?
We as “Sotograndinos” (people who live permanently in Sotogrande) see a continuous influx of people filling the local restaurants and shops every year.
Sotogrande is one of the largest luxury residential resorts in Europe. It is now, without a doubt, a place where you can live very comfortably year round and not even have to move your car towards the nearest town.
The infrastructure of Sotogrande offers good medical care, one of the best international schools in Spain, three of the best Spanish golf courses, and one of the best and largest polo facilities in Europe with several polo clubs; tennis, horse riding, and all kinds of water sports. It has one of the most modern European marinas, with over 1000 boat moorings, good shopping facilities excellent supermarkets and gourmet shops, a wide selection of restaurants and boutique shops, and so on.

It is difficult to know the exact statistical data on the number of holiday properties compared to main residences. However during the summer season (July and August), about 35,000 people populate Sotogrande. Year-round there are approximately 8,000 people residing in the resort. Many of these summer visitors are also owners of Sotogrande properties who use their homes during holiday periods.
Since the pandemic, many homeowners are using Sotogrande more and more. This has led to many villas being renovated and modernised as many have been built for summer use. Permanent residences require better insulation, windows and heating. This trend is constant, with many Sotogrande properties being adapted for year-round use.
We are definitely looking forward to this summer of 2023, with hot temperatures and lively sporting and fun events among friends and family.
